Should a celebrant pay for Easy Weddings or ABIA?

It depends how long you have been marrying couples, and either way you sign up for a year. ABIA publishes plan prices (its Essential listing shows $49.99 a month, or $529.00 a year), though its terms set fees at the rates quoted to you and let it raise them on notice, and it only takes a business that has done at least five weddings in the past twelve months under its current name. Easy Weddings publishes no price: you get a quote after a call, and its terms commit you to twelve months of fees. Easy Weddings gives large audience figures for itself; ABIA gives a published starting price. Neither is the place to start: the free Google Business Profile is.

Every price and term below is from each directory's own pages, and every figure about couples from Easy Weddings' own 2026 report, read 19 Oct 2026 and quoted. Appear Everywhere is run by ESK Solutions, which also runs Creative by Jake; where Creative by Jake appears in a comparison it is marked ours. Creative by Jake builds websites and this site sells Appear, so we have a stake in what this page recommends. Neither directory paid for or saw this page, and Creative by Jake earns nothing from either.

What does each one cost, and what do you sign up to?

Every quote is the directory's own words, read 19 Oct 2026; the words around the quotes are ours. "Not shown" means the pages we read did not say.

Which one earns its fee?

A directory earns its fee when the bookings it brings in pay for it, and with both of these you are paying for twelve months whether or not they do. So do the sum before you sign.

ABIA is a sum you can start from its published prices. Easy Weddings' own 2026 report puts the national average celebrant fee at "Australian National Average: $1,031". Against that, ABIA's Essential listing paid yearly ("$529.00" "per year") is about half of one ceremony. At that average, one booking a year from it covers the listing, before the setup fee, whose amount its pages do not give. Paying yearly also costs less than twelve months at "$49.99" "per month", but the month-to-month terms after the first year are written for a monthly payment term, and the terms we read say nothing about what follows a paid year, so ask before you pay yearly. And the published price is a starting point: the terms set fees at the rates quoted to you, with increases to the monthly fee on at least 14 days' written notice.

Easy Weddings is a sum you can only do with a quote. Its terms set fees at "the quoted rates advised to you", so ask for the full twelve months' cost in writing, and ask how many celebrant enquiries came through its site in your region last year. Its own celebrant case study, Renee Wilkins, shows "630 annual storefront views" and "19X estimated ROI". That is Easy Weddings' own estimate, for a celebrant "advertising with Easy Weddings since 2010", not a figure a new listing should expect.

Where do couples actually look, and how do they enquire?

Easy Weddings' report surveyed "more than 4,200 engaged and recently married couples and 540 wedding businesses". It is a directory asking its own audience, so its own share may run high. For inspiration and suppliers, couples named "Social Media 70%", "Easy Weddings 60%" and "Search Engines 53%".

Enquiries are a different picture. In the same report couples enquired by "28% Email" and "25% Supplier's Website", against "14% Easy Weddings Website or App" and "4% Wedding Websites/Directories". Couples browse the directory, and many then contact a supplier by email or through the supplier's own website. So a listing should lead to a website that shows your prices and real ceremonies.

The report also says that celebrants, on average, "Spend 24% revenue on marketing & ads". A directory fee is one part of that, not all of it.

Do the AI assistants read either directory?

ABIA lists "Google & AI Discoverability" in its Essential plan. In our own read on 8 Oct 2026, twelve answers from ChatGPT and Claude to six customer questions, Claude cited an Easy Weddings article for "local SEO for marriage celebrants", and neither assistant cited an ABIA page. One read is a floor, not a census, and proves little either way; the full read is here.

So which should a celebrant choose?

  1. Fewer than five weddings in the past year?ABIA's terms do not take you yet. Put the money into your free Google profile and your own website first, and consider Easy Weddings only if its quote and a year's commitment make sense for you.
  2. Established, and want a price you can see up front?ABIA's Essential plan shows one before you call. Ask what the setup fee is, whether your rate is the published one, and, if you pay yearly, what happens when the year ends.
  3. Want the directory most couples say they use?In Easy Weddings' own survey, 60% of couples used it for inspiration and suppliers. Take it if the quote works out, with the full twelve months in writing first.
  4. Whichever you choose, keep your details identical.Your name, phone and regions on the directory should match your Google profile and your website exactly, and the listing should link to your site.

Questions celebrants ask about the directories

Is there a free listing on Easy Weddings or ABIA?

Not on the pages we read. ABIA's plans start at Essential, and Easy Weddings quotes each business after a call.

Can I leave Easy Weddings or ABIA in the first year?

You can stop, but you still owe the year. Both directories' terms set a twelve-month first term: Easy Weddings makes the rest of the year's fees due at once if you cancel, and ABIA's terms commit you to the full twelve months, with no refund for a change of mind.

Do their prices include GST?

ABIA's terms say its fees include GST. Easy Weddings' terms say both: clause 2a, "Advertising Fees are inclusive of GST.", and clause 2c, a tax invoice for "the advertising fees plus applicable GST". Ask Easy Weddings, in writing, which applies to your quote.

Does Appear sell directory listings?

No. Appear does not sell or buy listings on either directory. It checks that your details on them match your Google profile and website, and shows how couples find you. It is $250 + GST a month, month to month. How it works.

Where does each fact on this page come from?
