What makes one tradie website cost more than another?

  • How many pages, and whether each service and area gets its own
  • A template or a design made for you
  • Who writes the words: you, or a copywriter
  • Whether hosting, maintenance and edits are included, or a monthly fee
  • Whether SEO is set up once, sold monthly, or not offered
  • The platform: Squarespace, Showit and Shopify carry their own subscription
  • Suburb pages and Google listing setup, which some include and some sell as extras

What should you ask before you pay?

  1. What is included, page by page?
  2. What does it cost each month after launch, and is there a minimum term?
  3. Who owns the files and the domain if I leave?
  4. Do your prices include GST?
  5. Can I see three live sites you built for my trade?
Is a cheap tradie website worth it?

It can be, if it is fast, clear, shows your prices and real work, and you own it. What makes a site cheap matters more than the price: a template you cannot change, a monthly fee that never ends, or a domain registered in someone else's name are the things to check.

Who owns the website when it is built?

Ask before you pay. Some builds are yours, files and domain; some live on a platform you rent month by month. With creativebyjake the files and the domain are in your name.

Does a new website get me found on Google?

Not on its own. A good site makes you readable; being found also takes a complete Google listing, consistent details and reviews. That is what Appear does, for $250 + GST a month.
